Oxytocin half-life & how long it lasts
Oxytocin has a half-life of about 9 minutes, reaches peak concentration around 9 minutes after a dose, and is practically cleared from the body about 1 hours after the last dose. Cleared within minutes. The injectable form has established clinical uses; intranasal PK is far less well characterised.

What that means day to day
- Levels are never zero between doses. On a as needed schedule with a 9 minutes half-life, each dose stacks on what is left of the last one until steady state.
- Peak is not injection day. Concentration keeps climbing for about 9 minutes after the shot, so effects and side effects lag the dose.
- Stopping is gradual. After the last dose it takes about 1 hours for the compound to be practically gone.
- Read this one loosely. There is no FDA label or full human pharmacokinetic study behind this figure.
